Whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing for many years, we all have a “moment.” A moment where something shifted and our practice allowed us to see ourselves and the world around us in a different way. A moment where we fell out of a pose and laughed and it was everything. A moment that showed us we’re stronger than we realized. A moment where we finally kicked up into headstand on our own and couldn’t believe it. A moment where we could finally let it all go and just be.
That “moment” is different for everyone and this summer we want to celebrate YOUR yoga moments. We also want to acknowledge the many yoga studios all over the world that make so many incredible yoga moments possible. Want to share your yoga moment with us? Here’s how.
This week’s Yoga Moment comes from Debra Foca during her practice at a NYC Yoga Journal Conference event Get Your Dance On with Elena Brower in Manhattan, NY.
“My yoga moment was at the recent NYC Yoga Journal Conference event Get Your Dance On with Elena Brower. It starts like a yoga class, them morphs into a free form dance. Picture 200 people dancing like no one’s watching, spinning, laughing, totally crazy. Then Alicia Keyes’ Empire State of Mind came on (“New York, concrete jungle that dreams are made of, there’s nothing you can’t do”), and I suddenly was overwhelmed with skyrockets of gratitude for the opportunity that yoga has offered me, the people I’ve met, the teachers who have inspired me, and how I was right then in Manhattan, the greatest city in the world, me as a small speck, yet part of this supportive and amazing, dancing, smiling, community, and how taking a yoga class one day has become a seven year lifestyle. A beautiful yogini suddenly stopped me and asked if I would be her dance partner. No partners are needed, she just wanted to spin together. I whirled and sang. How lucky I am. Santosha.”
