Whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing for many years, we all have a “moment.” A moment where something shifted and our practice allowed us to see ourselves and the world around us in a different way. A moment where we fell out of a pose and laughed and it was everything. A moment that showed us we’re stronger than we realized. A moment where we finally kicked up into headstand on our own and couldn’t believe it. A moment where we could finally let it all go and just be.
That “moment” is different for everyone and this summer we want to celebrate YOUR yoga moments. We also want to acknowledge the many yoga studios all over the world that make so many incredible yoga moments possible. Want to share your yoga moment with us? Here’s how.
This week’s Yoga Moment comes from Madeline Gilje during her practice at YogaWorks Soho in New York, NY.
“It was near the beginning of my yoga practice, and half an hour into a class that left me shaking, sweating, and seriously exhausted. I had constantly been thinking “I can’t do this, I can’t do this”, but somehow I did. At the beginning, Megan (Yogaworks Soho) had introduced a quote about expectations being the root of suffering. I was resting on the floor, sweating profusely, and she said, “Remember what I said about expectations? If you expect to stay on the floor, you are going to suffer.” I laughed. That was Megan, I would soon discover – always playful, lighthearted, bringing a perfect balance to the class. In the middle of a moment of doubt, I realized that yoga can be fun and challenging, and I let go of trying to push myself to be 100% and never show weakness. When we got back up, I felt energized, completely renewed, and finished the class absolutely glowing.”
