If you’ve found yourself saying, “I need to strengthen my core,” but also, “I don’t know where to start,” you’re not alone. So many of us know that we need to firm up in this area and for so many reasons: from lower back discomfort and digestion issues to wanting our physical center to match our strong energetic center. All of these are legitimate reasons, and all of them can be answered by one simple practice—Pilates.
While Pilates includes types to suit all personalities with all sorts of needs, when it comes to introductory level core strength, it really shines. It’s a system which understands that almost all human bodies can use a little extra love in this area and it has simple, accessible movements to get you started.
We put together a list of classes that prove that it’s possible to get stronger without discouragingly difficult moves. Each of these beginner routines will challenge you, but also leave you feeling confident and capable.
Just remember that one of the best ways to improve your core strength is consistent repetition. Core work doesn’t need to get fancy, the priority is to stay safe. So we recommend that you do these classes again and again before moving on. Stay focused on your breath and you won’t get bored!
