I am thrilled to introduce myself as one of Glo’s new trainers. I’ve been a dancer, yogi, fitness junkie, Pilates addict, and all-around health nut for over 20 years. I spent most of my life training as an actress, but 11 years ago, I turned my passion for fitness into a career instead of a side job.
I started teaching at a Pilates studio in Los Angeles, then with a handful of celebrity clients, I was able to grow my brand into a self-love trifecta of the body, mind, and soul, with a HEAVY focus on being your best self.
I love moving my body and I have spent most of my life working out HARD. I’d go to the gym, warm up on an elliptical for 30 minutes (or more), then take a kickboxing class, step class, or another class that promised sweaty results. I thought working out had to be grueling, and I felt guilty when I took a day off. It wasn’t a toxic relationship, but it certainly wasn’t a loving one. The crazy thing is, even with all that high-intensity exercise, I was never happy with my body. It was strong and flexible, due also in part to 18 years of dance, but I felt uncomfortable in my skin.
Finally, after a big life transition, I shifted my mindset and started working out to feel good instead of working out with a specific result in mind. I started to enjoy my workouts instead of feeling obligated to do them. I started to take as many days off as I wanted, and needed, and when I was ready, I would go back to my mat or the Pilates machine with focus, love, and determination. Instead of being a Drill Sergeant to my muscles, I started feeling grateful for them and taking care of them.
Don’t get me wrong, my style of Pilates and yoga is hard AF, and I still love a good sweat, but my approach is much gentler now. And, it’s fun! Which is super important. Once I stopped pounding my muscles on the elliptical, and poured my heart into my practice, and grounded myself in a new and beautiful way. I fell in love with myself, my body, and soon thereafter, I met the love of my life and now husband.
My body changed when my practice changed, and my practice changed when I shifted my mindset to self-love. If you workout for you—so that you feel good, you feel strong, so you have a healthy body—the results will be miraculous. You will feel incredible and have the body you always dreamed of (note, your dream body looks way different than EVERYONE else’s on the planet, and wow, isn’t that beautiful! A dream body isn’t a specific shape, it’s just a shape that YOU LOVE!). Yes, you too can have the whole gambit.
I now find myself, after two children, feeling more amazing than ever before. My baby is only five months old, so I am not where I was a year ago, but if you can believe it, I have even MORE love for this body. I mean, I grew two children and am back doing all the workouts I did when I was my strongest. But, this time, I’m not handcuffed to the gym. I am free.
Love yourself and that gorgeous body you were born with. Everything can be changed, but sometimes you have to release what you are holding onto. For me, it was letting go of the result and enjoying the process—isn’t that a metaphor for life?!
