Yoga, Nonviolence (Ahimsa), and Ecology
In this evening talk we will explore how the principle of nonviolence and the practice of Yoga meditation can be combined to heighten awareness of nature and the need for environmental activism. Christopher Key Chapple serves as Doshi Professor of Indic and Comparative Theology at Loyola Marymount University, where he has taught since 1985. He trained in classical Yoga under the guidance of Gurani Anjali beginning in 1972. He has published more than a dozen books, including the Gandhi Award winner, Yoga and the Luminous: Patanjali’s Spiritual Path to Freedom (2008). In 2002 he established the first of several Yoga Certificate programs at LMU, where he will host the third Green Yoga Conference and Certificate program at the end of May.
